My name is Olivia Perek and I'm from Auburn, NY, a city in central New York just 30 minutes from Syracuse. A fun media experience I had during vacation was setting up and finally using my electronic reader, the Pandigital, I recently got for my birthday. I was able to download multiple books and begin reading them which was a whole new experience for me; to read a book electronically and not actually hold it in my hands and flip the pages. The thing I like most about 21st century media is the fact that it keeps everyone connected. If it wasn't for today's media I wouldn't be able to keep in touch with as many people as I do and I wouldn't be able to reconnect with people either. One thing I dislike about 21st century media though, is how it takes over people's lives. Though I do this at times, I hate sitting in a room with my friends and try having a conversation and everyone is on their phones texting or on Facebook or Twitter. Also, I hate how nosy everyone has become because of today's media. Everyone is in everyone's business, whether it be my friends being in people in my town's business or society in general being in celebrities' business.
My vision for my future is to be an editor for a newspaper or magazine, preferably something entertainment related. This vision could change though, I'm just delving into the field of communications and learning the different facets of it, therefore my career goal could turn into something different.
